The days are already starting to get extremely hot around here and I’m regretting ever wanting it to be summer, lol! Seriously, it has already hit 100 degrees here a couple times so the most important thing to start focusing on is staying hydrated! I also love to make fun summer treats to keep us fueled for the longer days. So, I combined those two thoughts into these super cute and fun Kool-Aid cookies! A tall, cold drink of Kool-Aid is definitely a summer staple to have around the house and who doesn’t love festive cookies?!

Jeremy is an outdoorsy type of guy. He loves to work on our vehicles, especially detailing them. You can find him out in the garage and drive way every weekend and even a few nights during the week tweaking and working. When we were renting a house he also loved yard work…. what kind of person actually likes doing yard work? Beats me, but I always worry about him not getting enough fluids to make up for all he is sweating out. Gross, I know. So, while doing my weekly grocery shopping at Walmart I spotted these huge 96 oz. jugs of Kool-Aid they had around on different displays.

I thought it would be a perfect alternative to what he normally drinks while working outside. He can’t have too many sodas from the carbonation for his acid reflux or caffeine. So, this would really hit the spot! I wanted to make him an extra special treat to go along with the Kool-Aid but something that would pair good with the fruity flavor. I knew right away I wanted to make Kool-Aid cookies so off to the individual powdered Kool-Aid I went!

k15

I picked up two kinds, tropical punch and mixed berry. I was mainly looking for a red and blue but it didn’t hurt that they were my two favorite flavors either!

k16

I got home and unloaded my goodies then got to work on the cookies!

The recipe for the cookies is adapted from Creativity Scattered and the process adapted from Tablespoon.

Kool-Aid Cookies

Ingredients

  1. 1 box white cake mix
  2. 3/4 Cup butter, softened
  3. 2 eggs
  4. 2 packets Kool-Aid

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix the butter and eggs with a hand mixer until combined. Add in the cake mix and fully mix. Separate batter into 3 bowls evenly. Add in 1/2 tsp or half a packet of Kool-Aid powder into two of the bowls. Now, you should have three different colored batters.
  2. Put bowl in fridge for about 30 minutes to set up. Using a teaspoon, measure out each color of the batter into separate piles. Each pile should have one of each color.
  3. Roll piles into balls and place back in the fridge for 30 minutes. Roll out balls into long snake like strips. Try and twist the strip as you roll it out to get a stripe. Then, coil the strips, they should resemble those big lollipops. Roll the ends of the coils in sprinkles if desired. This is easiest if you work in batches, keeping the remaining balls in the fridge until you are ready to roll them out. They will get sticky very fast, I worked on about 3 cookies at a time.
  4. Bake for 9-10 minutes until they are slightly browned on the edges. Let cool on pan for 5 minutes, take off pan and let cool completely on wired rack.
  5. Serve and enjoy!

Jeremy loved the cookies but maybe the drink was a touch girly for him… what do you think? LOL! Either way he loved my efforts and thought the cookies were really “kool” looking! I love the cookie technique and will definitely be doing more like them in the future. They are fruity which is definitely a difference to other cookies I’ve made. Super fun to mix it up! And the colors just pop, perfect for Summer! I love how the cookies would be perfect for a 4th of July party too, red, white and blue all the way!

  1. These cookies look awesome! I love the swirled design and bold colors the Kool-aid gives them! Pinning! I’d love for you to link these up to my Creative Ways Link Party sometime! Hope to see you soon!

  2. I am in love with those cookies, and you make them look so easy with the great tutorial. I bet they smell delicious too, with the Kool-Aid! #Client

  3. Love the idea. Adult daughter likes purple, etc so I can mix pink , purple and white for a treat for her! I have lemonade sugar mix in the container. Could I use any of that? Would that sugar be too sweet for use for one color to use up my koolaid? So many ideas I love and not enough time. Think we will be able to do all this fun stuff in heaven too. Barb

    • You could definitely use the lemonade mix! The Kool-Aid makes it a little tart so using the sugar will even out the other colors. Let me know how they turn out!

  4. in the process of making these now! they looked great and I hope they turn out just as good. I decided to make cherry with lemonade. a little more time consuming than I thought they would be. but I hope itll be worth it in the end!

  5. So fun, Dana!!! You’re featured at this week’s Freedom Fridays! Thanks so much for joining us! :)
