Before we get into the heart of this post I would like to ask for everyone to just take a moment. That’s right, breathe it in because I, Dana Silly Girl DeVolk have made a craft. I am just going to bask in the glory that is this ombre wreath tutorial. I am not a crafter. The last time I made anything was for our Wedding a year and a half ago. So, I was a little intimidated I am not ashamed to say. But lo and behold all you mighty readers and take a look at THIS baby:
Yes, I am a little proud of myself, haha. But, something finally came out exactly how I wanted it to. Doesn’t it feel great when that happens?! I’ve never seen a yarn wreath ombre like this, I hope you like it! So, here’s how I did it!
Foam ring (That IS what this thing is right??)
2 different colors of yarn, preferably one darker than the other
Silk flowers that will “pop” off the other colors
Hot glue gun
1 pipe cleaner
Starting this was a little tricky for me but I finally figured it out. Start out with which color you want first. Make four equal sized pieces of the same color. I made mine about 5 feet long each. Tie them together at one end
Tie the yarn around the foam ring.I secured the end with some tape so it wouldn’t get in my way.
Now, just start wrapping trying to keep the string tight around the ring with no space in between to see the white underneath. You will do the first color in 3 different sections around. Tying the new section to the old section making sure it will be hidden from view on the back side. Once that is done you are going to start the ombre effect. First section of ombre, take 3 strands of the first color and 1 strand of the second color, tie together just like the solid sections. Wrap this, trying to keep three strands of the first color then one strand of the second color going around so it looks uniform. If you mess up a bit it doesn’t really matter on this first side because part of it will get covered up, this will be good practice for the side everyone will see. When that section is done, make the next section 2 strands the first color and 2 strands the second. Wrap trying to make the yarn colors side by side. Third section of ombre will be 1 strand the first color and 3 strands the second color. Wrap this so you have 3 strands then the 1 strand. Will look like this:
Continue with the second color in 3 sections or until it looks even with the first section solid yarn. Then, do the same thing with the ombre effect. When you are done the back will look like this:
And the front like this:
It’s not perfect but I think it has a nice look to it. From farther away it really does look ombre, I love it! Now, take the flowers and trim them, arrange them how you like and secure it with the pip cleaner. Get you hot glue gun ready cut the burlap to size and wrap it around the flowers and the wreath securing with the hot glue. I wrapped the burlap a second time to make sure you couldn’t see the flower stems and it secured them better as well. I cut strips of the burlap and made a simple bow attaching with hot glue.
Then taking another strip of burlap I made a bow out of it for the wreath hanger (not pictured). And that’s it! I was surprised it came out looking so good! I love it! The color of the darker shade is actually more of a mint in person. I hope you liked this tutorial and I hope I wasn’t too confusing!! LOL, if you have any questions you know you can ask away! Thanks so much for reading!
